It puts pressure within certain limits so that the overall system maintains the running conditions. This control pressure acts as safety device since it measures the pressure of the refrigerant. The set point is 625 PSI while the reset point is 500 PSI. The control pressure is usually set at the level of the system pressure and when it gets to this level, the compressor is often tripped off to prevent it from being damaged.
