The Carrier HH18HB040 is a temperature limit switch used to protect and control temperature in HVAC apparatus. It works on the principle of switching off an electric circuit when a particular temperature is achieved, and halts the functioning of the associated machinery. This safety measures helps in avoiding over heating of the system and even damaging of the systems all together. It is classified under sequencing relay type switch. This means it regulates the on/off cycle of other parts of the HVAC system as well. For example it switch off the heater in a furnace when a certain temperature is reached, and then alert the air conditioning system to start cooling when it is necessary.
