The Carrier P505-8487 is Filter Drier Shell, a filter-drier shell for some models of Carrier HVAC systems. It serves as a home for a filter drier insert, which is responsible for eliminating water and other dirt on the refrigerant line. This is effective in preventing corrosion, forming of ice, and loss of efficiency within the system. It is 5.7” long, 6.6” wide, and 10” high and is CSA compliant. It’s an insert that needs to be bought separately. It has to be replaced with a new shell to ensure the efficient functioning of the HVAC system. The filter drier also eliminates moisture that tends to freeze and block refrigerant flow, lowering cooling efficiency.
