Description
The Rheem-Ruud 46-102856-02 type is a 50VA transformer which is designed for HVAC systems. Power electronic converter takes normal 120V AC input and outputting 24V AC which is helpful in powering several parts of the HVAC system. Transformers are based on Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction in which voltage is induced in a coil by a changing magnetic field. This main coil is connected to a 120V supply and hence the magnetic field that is produced fluctuates. In the secondary coil, this leads to the generation of the required alternating current in order to provide the 24V required. This transformer has wide application in Rheem and Ruud HVAC systems for powering the control boards, thermostat, and other low voltage elements. The 50VA rating suffices the power required for most HVAC operations without the system being power hungry.
